As stated in an earlier newsletter this year’s AA tournament will be an eight team tournament and any team that has a .500 winning percentage.  There is a strong possibility that 12 teams will qualify.  If this happens, the first round will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019.  The top 4 teams will have a bye.  The remaining eight teams will play single matches at the site of the higher seed. It will be run as a regular match.  There will be no admission for the first round.  The home school will pay for the officials.  Only 2 officials will be assigned.  Line judges will be provided by the home school.

The pairing will be:

#12 @ #5

#11 @ #6

#10 @ #7

#9 @ #8

Thursday, May 23, 2019 District Finals and the third place match will be held at Dallas High School.  The match for the third seed will take place at 5:00.  The championship match will begin approximately thirty minutes after the conclusion of the first match.

The host schools for the quarter final and semi-final rounds will act as though this was a regular home match.  They will provide the ticket seller, ticket collector, security, timer, scorer, libero tracker/announcer and trainer.  These people will be paid by the district committee.  The athletic director of the host school will act as the site manager.  All matches will be the same as during the season—Best of 5 using rally scoring with no caps and win by two points.  Games 1 through 4 will be 25 point games, and game 5, if necessary, will be a 15 point game with no cap and win by 2.

THE TEAM WITH THE HIGHEST SEED WILL BE THE HOME TEAM.

ROSTERS

Please send a copy of your team roster to mswref@hotmail.com

SEEDING OF QUALIFIERS

Seeding will be done using the power rating system.  The latest standings can be found of the District II website.

TICKETS

There will be no pre-sale of tickets at the schools.  Ticket prices for the quarter final, semi-final and final rounds will be $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for students. For those matches, each school will be entitled to twenty-five team tickets admissions.  This includes all team personnel.  Everyone on your team must be stamped upon entering the game site. ALL TEAM PERSONAL MUST ENTER AT THE SAME TIME.   DOORS WILL NOT BE OPENED TO THE FANS OR TEAMS AT THE GAME SITE UNTIL 4:00 FOR ALL ROUNDS.  THE HOST SCHOOLS WILL ALSO FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE.

LOCKER ROOMS AND BENCHES

Upon arrival at the game site, you will be assigned a locker room by the site manager.  Since most schools only have two locker rooms available for teams, I advise that your team get dressed and bring their equipment out and store it behind the team bench until the completion of your match.  The host school will not be responsible for items left in the locker room.  Please help to keep both the locker room and the area around your bench clean by disposing of all unnecessary materials in the proper containers.  Coaches, players in uniforms, managers, statisticians and trainers will be the only persons permitted on the team bench.  The home team (higher seed) will designate which is their bench.

BALLS

Each team should bring their own warm up balls and one game ball.  The game ball will be selected by the officials.  Every team that makes the quarter-final round will be given a Baden (Official ball) on the night of that match.  It is now necessary to use it in districts as well as those teams that advance to the state tournament.

WARM-UPS

Teams may not run, stretch, or warm-up on the playing floor until their designated warm-up time. This may not be before 30 minutes before the start of the first match.  The coin flip will take place approximately 20 minutes before the first game time.  Warm-up will follow the coin flip and be as follows:  Bumping, stretching, etc. for 6 minutes together, serving team will hit and serve for 7 minutes followed by the receiving team hitting and serving for 7 minutes. Only players with uniforms and sneakers will be permitted on the playing court during warm-ups.  There will be no music during warm-ups.

SCORER AND TIMER

The official timer will be the referee.  Each team will provide a scorer for the quarter finals and semi-finals.  The home team will act as the official scorer and have an additional scorer to act as the libero tracker/announcer.  Please select an experienced scorer so that the match will go smoothly.  They are a very important part of the officiating crew.  The home scorer will be responsible for giving the match results to the tournament director.  THE WINNING TEAM OF EACH MATCH IS RESPONSIBLE TO CALL THE INFORMATION INTO THE NEWSPAPERS.  HOPEFULLY THERE WILL BE SOMEONE PRESENT FROM THE PRESS TO GIVE THESE TEAMS THE COVERAGE THEY DESERVE, BUT IF THEY ARE NOT, THE WINNING TEAM MUST CALL IN THE RESULTS.  THE PHONE NUMBERS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Citizen’s Voice  (570) 821-2061

TOURNAMENT RULES

Unsportsmanlike conduct by any player, coach, or spectator will be dealt with by tournament security and could result in ejection from the site.  The NFHS Volleyball Rules on taunting or the use of disconcerting acts or words when a player is about to play the ball will be enforced by the security or game management and could result in ejection.  The site policy on smoking on school property will be enforced.  Please advise your team and fans that PIAA tournament rules will be in effect.  The presence or use of banners, signs, whistles, noisemakers and portable listening devices (without earphones) are not permitted.  Only small listening devices (with earphones) are permitted provided they do not interfere with other spectators and/or tournament competition.  Once the match has begun, teams will not be permitted on the court or in the general playing area unless warming up at the appropriate times.  Coaches, players in uniform, managers, statisticians and trainers will be the only persons permitted on the team bench.

AWARDS AFTER THE FINAL MATCH

Upon arrival at the site of the final match, please check and revise your roster so that the presentation of medals can go smoothly at the conclusion of the final match.  Each team will be given 15 medals.  If you want someone else, such as an assistant coach, to receive a medal, please indicate that on your roster.  At the conclusion of the final match, please line up your players along the end line.  Their names will be read in the order that they appear on your roster and they will be presented with either the championship or runner-up medal.  Second place will receive their medals first followed by the champions.  The champions will also be awarded the district championship plaque.  Only team players and coaches will be permitted on the competition floor during the medal presentation.

GOOD LUCK IN THE UPCOMING TOURNAMENT AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!!!

BOTH BRACKETS WILL BE POSTED TO THE DISTRICT II WEBSITE, www.piaad2.org, WHEN THE MATCHUPS HAVE BEEN DETERMINED.  THEY WILL BE LOCATED ON THE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS STORY ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE WEBPAGE.
