MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 17,
2008 MEETING

Meeting
was convened at 4:15 p.m. by Chairman Majikes
ITEM 1 Chairman Majikes called the meeting
to order at 4:15 p.m.
Absent,

ITEM 2 Chairman Majikes
welcomed Vito Quaglia, Principal of Wyoming Area High
School, to the District II Committee.
Vito is also serving as the Soccer Chairperson for the Committee.
ITEM 3 A motion
was made by Ray Lowery, seconded by Tom Jenkins, to approve the minutes of the August 20, 2008 meeting. All Ayes
ITEM 4 Frank Victor, District II Treasurer,
presented an informal review of the current status of the District II annual
audit. Frank explained that at the
conclusion of the annual audit he will have a formal presentation for the
October meeting.
ITEM 5 Following a review of the applications
received for the current vacancy on the District II Committee, a motion was
made by Tom Jenkins, seconded by Mike Ognosky, to appoint Jeff Gregory,
Athletic Director of Lackawanna Trail High School, as a member of the committee
effective the October meeting. Jeff will
also be serving as the Field Hockey Chairperson. All

ITEM 6 a.) A
motion was made by Joe Lalli, seconded by Jay Starnes, to approve the
eligibility of Michael Gabriel Stec, Dallas
to Holy Redeemer, in accordance with Article VI, Transfers and Residence,
principal to principal sign off. All Ayes
b.) A motion was made by Tom
Jenkins, seconded by Don Kanavy, to approve the
eligibility of Josue Vazquez, Meyers to Holy
Redeemer, in accordance with Article VI, Transfers and Residence, principal to
principal sign off. All Ayes
c.) A motion was made by Bill King, seconded by
Jay Starnes, to approve the eligibility of Christine Bergey,
Holy Redeemer to Wyoming Valley West, in accordance with Article VI, Transfers
and Residence, principal to principal sign off.

d.)
A motion was made by Ross Scarantino,
seconded by Vito Quaglia, to approve the eligibility
of Britany Goscinski, West
Scranton to Holy Cross, in accordance with Article VI, Transfers
and Residence, principal to principal sign off.

e.) A motion was made by Jim Higgins, seconded by
Maureen Williams, to approve the eligibility of John Ridd,
Scranton Prep to Honesdale, in accordance with Article VI, Transfers and
Residence, principal to principal sign off.

ITEM 7 a.) A motion was made by Ray Lowery, seconded by
Frank Galicki, to approve the eligibility of Andras Schwertner, Hungary
to Honesdale, in accordance with Article VII,
Foreign Exchange Students. All Ayes
b.) A motion was made by Bill King, seconded by
Don Kanavy, to approve the eligibility of Leticha Rios, Mexico
to Tunkhannock, in accordance with Article VII,
Foreign Exchange Students. All Ayes
c.)
A motion was made by Jay Starnes, seconded by Jim Marcks, to approve the eligibility of Isabella Mangei, Germany
to Berwick, in accordance with Article VII,
Foreign Exchange Students. All Ayes
d.) A motion was made by Danielle Adams, seconded
by Frank Victor, to approve the eligibility of Alberta Sichitollo,
Italy to Wallenpaupack, in accordance with Article VII,
Foreign Exchange Students. All Ayes
ITEM 8 SPORTS REPORTS:
a.) Cross Country (Bill King): Information on the District Cross Country
Championships will be placed on the web page and distributed to member schools
shortly. The Junior High Meet will be
held at McDade Park on Saturday, October 18th, while
the Varsity Meet will be held at Scranton Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday,
October 22nd.
b.) Field Hockey (Jeff Gregory): Information regarding the Field Hockey
Championships will be forthcoming.
c.) Football (Tom Jenkins): All the information is located on the
website. The seeding meeting will be
held on Monday, November 3rd at Tribecca
in Pittston at noon.
d.) Golf (Ray Lowery): All the information is located on the
website. Ray announced that it has been
updated to reflect the schedule for the District II Team Championships as
well. Ray reminded member schools to
make the checks out to District II PIAA.
e.) Soccer (Vito Quaglia): All the information is currently on the
website.
f.) Tennis (Mike Ognosky): All is set for the Girls’ Championships in
the Fall – all the information is located on the
webpage.
g.) Volleyball (Maureen Williams): Maureen discussed the tentative dates for the
Volleyball Championships. All of that
information will be distributed shortly.
ITEM 9 At
4:50 p.m.
the District II Committee held a closed hearing
regarding
the eligibility of Joseph Jacinto Russo, a transfer student from Delaware Valley to
Holy Cross. Delaware Valley has
questioned the transfer believing that the transfer was for whole, or in part,
for athletic reasons, in accordance with Article VI, Transfers and Residence of
the PIAA By-Laws. Hearing and
deliberation continued until 6:45 p.m. At the conclusion of the deliberation,
the following action was taken:
A motion was made by Mike Ognosky, seconded by Frank Victor, to deny
eligibility to Joseph Jacinto Russo in basketball for the 2008-2009 school year. 15 Ayes, 2 Nays.
ITEM 10 At 6:50 p.m. the District II Committee held a closed
hearing regarding the eligibility of Tanna Novatski, a student residing in the Abington Heights School
District and attending a full time
class in the Mid Valley School
District as a special needs
student. Hearing and deliberations
continued until 7:06 p.m. At the conclusion of the deliberation, the
following action was taken:
A
motion was made by Dino Galella, seconded by Bill King, to approve the
eligibility of Tanna Novatski
for the 2008-2009 school year at Mid Valley High
School. All Ayes
ITEM 11 At 7:10 p.m. the District II Committee held an open
hearing regarding the events of a PIAA Baseball Contest played between Valley
View and Old Forge in April, 2008. Both
Old Forge and Valley View administration and athletic personnel presented
testimony regarding the event and the subsequent actions taken by each member
school.
At the conclusion of the presentation, the
District II Committee commended the administration and athletic personnel of
both member schools for their actions taken at the time of the event as well as
the subsequent plans of action that were initiated in order to ensure that such
events would not be replicated in the future.
ITEM 12 At
7:30 p.m.
the District II Committee held a closed hearing with
Scranton High
School Officials regarding correspondence
received
from
the Head Wrestling Coach in April, 2008.
Following deliberation, the following action was taken:
The District requested that the administration of the Scranton School District address the situation with the coach and
report back to the District II Committee.
ITEM 13 The
